Boston Kokikai Aikido

"minimum effort maximum effect"

The first Boston Kokikai Aikido was held at the BCNC, or Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, in the basement of the Josiah Quincy School.  With foraged and mis-matched mats she started holding class on Mondays with Assistant Instructor Andreea Nicoara in August of 2006.  The Thursday class was added later and then two more classes by 2007.  By the end of 2007 the class had reached eighteen students!

The classes then moved to the Benjamin Franklin School in January of 2008, and were held there until a faculty change prompted a move to first a gallery in SOWA (south end, boston) for December of 2008, and then to 862 Tremont Steet, home of an after care center called Idyll, from 2009-2012.  In 2013 rising prices prompted our move to the Union Gym located on Tremont Street, in the Chinatown/Theater District area of boston.  After only seven months there, The closure of the Union Gym was difficult for many students, as we had our own area there, which we had all painted.  We had high hopes for making it our own room for years to come, but financial problems forced the closure of the Union Gym.

In August of 2013, I was fortunate to find space for our practice at Ultimate Fitness in Boston's historic Chinatown.  I am happy to be in Chinatown, and we have a very friendly relationship with the other martial artists there, they often help us set up our mats!  It is a beautiful room with solid wood floors, private changing rooms and showers!
